Forms & Resources

The official Haskett Junior High Band Handbook covers all the basic information students and their families need to know about the Husky Band program.  This includes: Band uniforms, performance expectations, grading policies, independent time (homework!), canvas, chair tests, auditions, private lessons, and classroom rules. For the parents, the handbook tries to answer all of the most asked questions on how to support your student’s development as a musician.

We require that each student reviews the Haskett Junior High Band Handbook with a parent, and turns in a signed signature form as an assignment.  Parents – if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to either of the band directors.  We look forward to partnering with you on your child’s education, and are always here to help.

Katy ISD makes the safety of students and staff a priority.  This form is required for your student to go on trips with the Haskett Band and grants permission for emergency medical treatment if needed.

Every student must spend time practicing their instrument to get better.  Practice charts help students manage their time and keep parents in the loop regarding their child's progress.  Practice charts are due every Tuesday to Mr. Tipps or Mrs. McGraw.  For your convenience, blank practice charts are can be found here.

These are the instruments and equipment we ask students to have for beginning band.  We’ve created this list based on experience of what works best for new musicians, and have tried to select instruments that cover their needs from playing their first few squeaks to basic sonatas.  There are numerous brands and models of every instrument, but starting with a professional grade instrument may hinder a beginner more than it helps.  If you are interested in purchasing an instrument or equipment not listed on these forms, please contact the directors for guidance on selecting the best option for your child.

For our more advanced band students we have an updated material and equipment list.  Most of the equipment is the same from the first year, and it usually isn’t necessary to upgrade at this time.  However, families wishing to upgrade instruments are encouraged to contact the director for guidance for upgrade options.  We are happy to try and help match your student with higher quality instruments that will allow them to grow as a musician without breaking the bank.

Katy ISD makes the safety of students and staff a priority. The Husky Band welcomes any band parents or guardians to serve as volunteer chaperones on our trips. Chaperones are required to fill out this form once per year for band activities, and enables them to travel by bus with the band.

Katy ISD makes the safety of students and staff a priority, which includes a policy that student must travel by bus from HJH to an event, and return by bus to the HJH campus.  Often Husky Band parents like to attend performances and prefer to take their musician home in private vehicles after the event.  This form is required for each event, and if submitted and approved before in advance, can enable students to ride home with their parent.
